There is no end to Manchester United’s nightmare after the Red Devils suffered another disappointing loss – this time in the Champions League. United let slip a lead twice on Tuesday night before losing 3-2 to Galatasaray. To make things worse, United ended the game with 10 men after Casemiro was sent off deep into the second half. It is the second straight loss for Man United in the competition, as they find themselves in serious trouble of getting knocked out in the group phase.

Even though Manchester United played better football than recent days, individual mistakes cost the side dearly on Tuesday night against Galatasaray in the Champions League. After the match, Erik ten Hag felt the team needed better control. “It’s not easy to score goals in this [Champions] League so you have to be more focused and co-operate, so you don’t concede goals so quickly [after scoring]. But it’s also about keeping the ball and keeping control in the game, and we have to improve in that fact,” he told the likes of TNT Sports, UEFA and beIN Sports after the match.

He further added: “I think we were twice up and we were controlling the game. And then, yeah, some errors, some fundamental errors we make [which] we normally wouldn’t have in the game. And you can’t allow them in this level. You get punished for it. It’s difficult to control, but we are all together, in this. It’s not only one making such an error, it’s as a team we make such errors, so you don’t win the game, which was totally unnecessary because as I said, you are twice up, so you are in control of the game and then you don’t expect this outcome.”

Erik ten Hag on Rasmus Hojlund

Rasmus Hojlund’s performance was one of the few positives from a disappointing night. The manager was full of praise for the double-goal hero. “He played a very good game and he was a threat all the way through. He scored two great goals, so we are happy with that. Of course, finally now you don’t win the game. And also you see Rasmus is very disappointed, but he can be really happy with his goals,” the manager explained.

United now have a difficult chance of qualifying from Group A after losing their opening two games in the competition. However, ten Hag still remains optimistic about their chances of going through to the knockout stages. “Everything is open. There are still four games to go and we have a double [game] with Copenhagen. Every game is tough but we know what to do. We know what our demand is there: to stay in this group and to keep our positions open for going through,” he stated.
