Manchester United ended their two-game losing run in dramatic fashion at the weekend. The Red Devils came from behind to register a late 2-1 win over Brentford in the Premier League. United headed into the game on the back of losing to Crystal Palace in the league and Galatasaray in the Champions League. Both defeats came at home. Hence, the supporters can be forgiven for fearing the worst when the Red Devils were trailing once again to Brentford at Old Trafford.

However, substitute Scott McTominay scored two late goals in injury time to help Manchester United register an unlikely 2-1 win in the Premier League at the weekend. Centre-back Harry Maguire feels that the club must use this win as an opportunity to turn things around. “That was a really important win. Obviously, it has been a difficult time for us at the start of this season. We’ve not had the results that we, as a club, demand. Like I said, I think the season must start now. This must be a turning point for us all, as individuals and as a club. We must kick on from this,” he told Sky Sports.

I’m always ready: Harry Maguire

It was also an important night for Maguire, who has been struggling for game time lately. Despite not getting sufficient minutes on the pitch, the English international looked sharp on Saturday. He was not only solid defensively but also contributed heavily to the late winner scored by McTominay. “I’m always ready when I’m playing. I work hard in training and keep fit every day, and I’m happy that I contributed to a win,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag also agreed with Maguire and hoped that the comeback win over Brentford would be a turning point in their season. “This must be the turning point. This reflects our season so far from the start of a game. It has to be that you believe and you see the fans believe: they are sticking together. They are behind us and they kept us going. But then we have a plan and that is the big compliment for the team. They kept the plan. They kept switching. And from there on in the right moment, you bring the ball in the box. And of course we had to make and bring more players in the box. And I think that’s what we did the last 30 minutes and then you get rewarded in the end,” ten Hag, quoted by the club’s website, told the media after the match.

However, the manager is not happy with some of the goals they are giving away. “It can always be better, but it can’t happen that you give a goal and then you follow facts and always we will talk about the result and I think there were some good spells, I’m sure. But I look back, I have seen some good spells for good stretches also with tempo in the game, with creating chances and controlling the game over a long period. Definitely. But once again, when you give so easily a goal away, we can’t do it at our level. We have to do better and you have to take more responsibility and you have to be accountable because otherwise it’s difficult to win games,” he stated.
