Manchester United supporters have already seen their club sign two new first-team quality players in the summer transfer window. Mason Mount joined from fellow Premier League outfit Chelsea, while Andre Onana completed his move from Inter Milan. Both signings have got the fans excited for the upcoming season, which will begin in a couple of weeks’ time.

The arrival of Mason Mount from Chelsea is set to increase the competition for places in Manchester United’s midfield ranks. One player whose position might be in threat is Christian Eriksen. It is because Mount has been predominantly playing in Eriksen’s position so far in the pre-season. However, the Denmark international is happy to have Mount at the squad, as he is keen to win trophies together in the coming season.

Christian Eriksen on Mason Mount

“I think he’s been taken very good care of. I think he’s felt at home. I think, already, he doesn’t seem like he’s that new. I think he mingles in very well and fits in and is playing well. I mean I think everyone knows his qualities and he’s definitely a player that will add to our team in a very positive way. I definitely hope he will bring that [experience] and I’m sure he will. Like you said, he’s been in finals and he’s won them. So that’s what you want to be as a footballer. Now the aim is he can win something with us as well,” Eriksen told club media.

Eriksen has been one of the regular set-piece takers at United last season. However, Mount, who is also a specialist in that department, will provide competition on dead-ball duties. Referring to it, Eriksen said, “There will be loads on free-kicks this season, I think! I think we need to get some more free-kicks this season. But no, he’s definitely a very good kicker of the ball and, definitely, we’ll [have to] see whoever’s playing, whoever’s on the pitch. I’m sure we’ll find out who’s in the best position to take a free-kick.”

Manchester United are currently in the middle of a busy pre-season schedule which has also seen them travel to the USA for friendly games. Speaking about the preparations for the upcoming season, Eriksen said, “Yeah, it is getting closer. Now we are back as a full squad, everyone together. There’s no different groups and everyone is together, which is also a good feeling. But no, it is. It’s getting closer and all the things, all the meetings about the games coming up and the season. So yeah, you get the feeling that we’re almost there.”
