Luton Town will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to 12 games in the EFL Championship when they host Middlesbrough at Kenilworth Road on Monday night. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw away to Reading on Wednesday night, while Boro secured a 2-1 win over Hull City. As of now, Luton are occupying third spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 75 points from 34 games, seven adrift of second placed Sheffield United, who have a game in hand, and just a solitary point clear of fourth-placed Middlesbrough.

Luton shared the spoils against relegation-threatened Reading courtesy of Carlton Morris’s equaliser ten minutes from time. Prior to that, the hatters secured their 20th league-win of the season at Rotherham United thanks to two unanswered goals from Morris and Cauley Woodrow. Successive wins for Sheffield United means that the two automatic qualification spots are almost sealed. Nevertheless, Luton can be delighted that a home second leg in the playoffs is pretty much guaranteed thanks to seven wins from their last 11 matches. Although Rob Edwards’s side haven’t had the best home-record in the second tier this term, having taken just 35 points from a possible 63, the Hatters have won their last four matches at Kenilworth Road.
Middlesbrough, on the other hand, have the second-best home record in the Championship this season, but Michael Carrick’s side have struggled on the road, winning just nine of their 21 outings. Boro won their 22nd second tier game of the season against Hull on Wednesday night thanks to second-half goals from Hayden Hackney, Cameron Archer and Chuba Akpom. It was their second consecutive win, scoring eight goals and conceding just two in the process. Ahead of the weekend fixtures, Carrick’s side still require one more win to guarantee a top-four position. Meanwhile, Middlesbrough secured a 2-1 win over Luton in the reverse fixture in December last year.
