Liverpool welcome West Ham United to Anfield for the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup. Both teams are heading into the game in good form. Even though the Reds were held to a goalless draw by a resilient Manchester United in the Premier League at the weekend, they have largely been impressive of late by getting several crucial victories. The same is the case for West Ham United, who are also enjoying a fine run both in domestic and European competitions.

West Ham United had overcome SC Freiburg 2-0 in the Europa League and followed it up by registering a thumping 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League at the weekend. With successive victories and clean sheets, West Ham will fancy their chances at Anfield against an in-form Liverpool side in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup. Hence, goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is expecting nothing but a difficult challenge against the visitors.

Caoimhin Kelleher on West Ham United

“West Ham are obviously a quality side, we saw at the weekend they beat Wolves 3-0, so they are coming in good form as well. So it’ll be a tough game, it was a tough game when we played them in the league already this season at home. We just need to prepare right for it. The whole team knows it will be a tough game but hopefully we can get through and get the win,” Kelleher, quoted on the club’s website, said ahead of the game.

He added: “It’s the quarter-finals now so it will be a big game for us, in front of Anfield as well. It’s going to be a tough game against West Ham but hopefully we can get the win and go one step closer to Wembley again. Obviously I’ve had some great moments in this competition. Personally, it has given me a lot of chances to get games and stuff like that. I only have good memories when this competition comes around, so I’m always excited to play in it.”

Kelleher had indeed played a key role in helping Liverpool win the 2022 Carabao Cup final against Chelsea at the Wembley Stadium. The youngster has nothing but happy memories to recollect from the famous triumph. “I think for the whole team it’s a great memory for us, to be honest. It’s nice that you can win a trophy so early on in the season, in February – it gives the team a really good positive feeling to try to finish off the season as well. We had a really good feeling when we won that, so I think it’s really good memories for the whole of the squad,” he explained.
