Juventus will host Sporting Lisbon in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final tie at Allianz Stadium on Thursday. Both sides reached this far in the competition in very different style, as the hosts thrashed SC Freiburg 3-0 in the two-legged last-16 tie, while Sporting overcame Arsenal on penalties. Meanwhile, the two clubs are heading into the match on the back of contrasting results in their respective league-fixtures in the weekend, with Juve losing 2-1 to Lazio in the Serie A, while Sporting secured a 4-3 Portuguese Primeira Liga-win over Casa Pia.

Juventus’s seven-game unbeaten run across all competitions came to an end last weekend at Stadio Olimpico courtesy of goals from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Zattia Zacagni either side of Adrien Rabiot’s equaliser. Due to the 15-point penalty imposed on them for financial irregularities, the Bianconeri are sitting at the seventh spot in the Serie A standings, with 44 points to their name from 29 games, eight adrift of the top four. Nevertheless, they have won 11 of their last 15 matches, including a comprehensive a 2-0 win away to Freiburg in the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie, Courtesy of goals from Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa.

Sporting, on the other hand, are heading into the match on the back of a 11-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, wining seven of those matches. Last time out, the Green and Whites secured all three points away to Casa Pia in the Portuguese top flight, courtesy of Francisco Trincao’s hat-trick and one goal from Pedro Goncalves. It was Sporting 18th league-win of the season and they are now sitting at the fourth spot on the Portuguese Pirmeira Liga standings, having collected 57 points from 27 games. Meanwhile, when it comes to the Europa League, Ruben Amorim’s side overcame Premier League-leaders Arsenal 5-3 on penalties after the second leg ended 1-1 at the end of 120 minutes of play.
