Ivory Coast will take on Togo in an international friendly at Stade Robert Diochon in France on Saturday. Both sides had failed to qualify for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar and therefore would be looking to use these friendlies as a preparation for their 2023 AFCON Qualification. The Elephants are heading into the match on the back of a goalless draw at Lesotho in an AFCON qualifier in June, while Togo suffered a 2-0 defeat to Cape Verde in the same month. Ivory Coast were dumped out of the 2022 AFCON in the last-16 stage when they lost on penalties to Egypt.
The Elephants missed out on a place in the World Cup as they managed to secure only a second place finish in their qualification group. However, Ivory Coast began their 2023 AFCON qualification campaign with a 3-1 win over Zambia on June 3, courtesy of goals from Serge Aurier, Christian Kouame and Ibrahim Sangare. Togo, on the other hand, began their AFCON qualification campaign with a 2-2 draw against Eswatini, courtesy of goals from Euloge Placca and Kodjo Laba . And then, conceded two times against Cape Verde without any reply on June7.

Ivory Coast boss Jean Louis Gasset has named a strong 24-man squad for the two friendlies in September. Nottingham Forest full-back Serge Aurier is likely to start at the right-back position with Barcelona’s Franck Kessie pulling the strings in the midfield alongside Sangare and Seri. Nocolas Pepe, Wilfried Zaha and Max Gradel are likely to form the front-three. As for Togo, Laba is expected to lead the line alongside Placca and Nane.
