Chennaiyin FC (CFC) have signed striker Jobby Justin on a 2-year contract ahead of the 2021-22 Indian Super League (ISL) season. Justin made his debut in the popular football tournament with ATK in their title-winning campaign of 2019/20. The attacker made 10 appearances that season, with the following campaign not so kind. The Trivandrum-born footballer was ruled out with a ligament injury for the entirety of the Goa-based season. Justin was part of the newly christened ATK Mohun Bagan’s set-up.

“Really happy to receive an offer from Chennaiyin FC”

“I am really happy to receive an offer from a renowned club like Chennaiyin FC. Being a South Indian, I always wanted to play for a south-based team and when a prestigious club like Chennaiyin FC came calling, it was an easy decision for me,” stated the attacker.

“I have a lot of expectations lined up with this signing and the most important one is being a part of the first team. Another important one will be to shower the club with as many achievements as I can. Finally, I would love to express all my love and gratitude to my family, friends, and most importantly to my fans who stood by me throughout my highs and lows,” added the footballer, who had made his national team debut during the 2019 Intercontinental Cup.

The forward grew up playing on the beaches of Vettucaud. He was also a vital cog in East Bengal’s second-place finish in the 2018-19 I-League season. Justin’s nine-goal tally for the Red and Gold Brigade was the third highest in the league that season.

“Jobby’s signing boosts an area that we were lacking in last season. We are happy to have an Indian player with such attacking intent and I am sure he will fit in seamlessly in our family,” said CFC co-owner Vita Dani.

27-year-old Justin possesses the pace, skills, and aerial ability to provide much-needed depth to Chennaiyin FC’s attack alongside youngster Rahim Ali.

Recent addition of goalkeeper Debjit Majumder

The Chennai-based franchise recently signed goalkeeper Debjit Majumder. The two-time ISL champions have signed a multi-year deal with the 33-year-old experienced campaigner, which certainly seems like a good move considering his vast experience. Debjit represented SC East Bengal in the last edition of the ISL. The goalkeeper pulled off 50 saves including two clean sheets in his 15 appearances for the Red & Gold Brigade.

CFC enjoy an excellent combination of youth and experience in the goalkeeper’s department, following the addition of Debjit with 24-year-old Vishal Kaith already a vital member of the ranks.

“We are happy to bring in Debjit (Majumder) to support Vishal between the sticks. He will also bring a wealth of knowledge and experience into the dressing room given his time at some top clubs in the country,” said Chennaiyin FC co-owner Vita Dani.

It will be interesting to note the performances of the Chennai-based franchise in the upcoming edition of ISL. One can certainly expect these two signings to make their presence felt, considering the damage they are capable of.
