Indian Super League (ISL) champions Chennaiyin FC (CFC) have signed goalkeeper Debjit Majumder ahead of the 2021-22 season. The two-time ISL champions have signed a multi-year deal with the 33-year-old experienced campaigner, which certainly seems like a good move considering his vast experience. Debjit represented SC East Bengal in the last edition of the ISL. The goalkeeper pulled off 50 saves including two clean sheets in his 15 appearances for the Red & Gold Brigade.

CFC enjoy an excellent combination of youth and experience in the goalkeeper’s department, following the addition of Debjit with 24-year-old Vishal Kaith already a vital member of the ranks.

“We are happy to bring in Debjit (Majumder) to support Vishal between the sticks. He will also bring a wealth of knowledge and experience into the dressing room given his time at some top clubs in the country,” said Chennaiyin FC co-owner Vita Dani.

“I’m really excited to play for Chennaiyin FC”

Debjit hails from a small town Hindmotor, which is situated near Kolkata. He spent his early years at Uttarpara Netaji Brigade, before representing top Indian clubs including East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, ATK and Mumbai City FC.

The goalkeeper expressed his excitement after signing for Chennaiyin FC, terming Vishal as a good goalkeeper who has been doing well for the last two seasons.

“I’m really excited to play for Chennaiyin FC and keen to perform and contribute to bring its third title. Vishal (Kaith) is a good goalkeeper and he has been doing well for the last two seasons, so it will be healthy competition in the team. We both will look to bring good results for the team. I’m also looking forward to working closely with the youngsters in the club and passing on the experience,” said Debjit after the deal was announced.

He played a crucial role in ATK’s title-winning campaign in 2016. The goalkeeper’s journey of four seasons with Mohun Bagan also includes two I-League trophies (2015 and 2020) as well as the Federation Cup in 2016.

Recent addition of Salam Ranjan Singh

The Chennai-based franchise recently announced the arrival of 25-year-old centre back Salam Ranjan Singh. The defender from Manipur joins the two-time ISL champions on a multi-year deal. Salam joins the Chennai-based franchise following a stint at ATK Mohun Bagan in the previous campaign.

The defender is a product of the Pune FC academy and won back-to-back youth league titles before being promoted to the senior team in 2013-14, as he featured in the I-League and AFC Cup for the Red Lizards. Salam then joined Bengaluru FC, with whom he won the I-League and Federation Cup trophies.

This was followed by a brief stint with NorthEast United for the 6’1′ defender. Salam went on to join East Bengal for a period of two years. He has recorded more than 50 appearances in the I-League so far. The defender impressed one and all with his robust performances, possessing adept positional awareness and aerial ability, while not shying away from a crunching challenge.

CFC lifted the ISL trophy in 2015 and 2017-18. They will be looking to win a third title when the new season kicks off later this year.
