Ipswich suffered their only defeat of the 2023-24 campaign against Leeds United on August 2. The Tractor Boys have since stitched together a six-game winning run in all competitions, before sharing the spoils away to Huddersfield Town towards the end of last month. Nevertheless, Kieran McKenna’s side returned to winning ways with a comprehensive victory over Hull on Tuesday thanks to one goal each from Wes Burns, Conor Chaplin and Marcus Harness. The result extended their unbeaten run to eight games across all competitions, scoring a whopping 19 goals and keeping three clean sheets in the period.
Preston, on the other hand, started their 2023-24 season impressively, recording an eight game unbeaten run in the Championship, but seems to fallen out of track in the last two outings, losing out to West Bromwich Albion and Leicester. After the 1-1 draw at Rotherham on September 23, the North End suffered a humiliating 4-0 thrashing against West Brom, before losing 3-0 to Leicester last time out. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall netted either side of Kelechi Iheancho’s 76th-minute effort to hand Preston only their third defeat across all competitions this season. While their early-season work has not quite been undone, PNE need to bounce back to win as soon as possible.
