Hyderabad FC news: Indian Super League club appoints Appu Jose as the new sporting director

Thangboi Singto will now be the technical director of the club and the reserve team head coach Shameel Chembakath has been promoted as the first team assistant ahead.

Indian Super League (ISL) Champion Hyderabad FC made three key announcements on Friday. Appu Jose has been appointed as HFC’s new Sporting Director, Thangboi Singto, who served as the club’s first team assistant coach over the last two seasons, will now be the technical director of the club and the reserve team head coach Shameel Chembakath has been promoted as the first team assistant ahead of the upcoming campaign. The Nizams had defeated Kerala Blasters FC on penalties in the ISL 2021-22 final to lift their maiden trophy and it was the byproduct of the club’s long-term vision.

 “Appu Jose will be in charge of taking forward the club’s vision and philosophy. He will coordinate with the head coach and other Technical Staff for all the technical matters. Appu’s core responsibilities will involve scouting, recruiting and transfer decisions of players as well as technical and sporting staff hirings,” Hyderabad FC said in a media release. HFC are known to promote young Indian footballers, the likes of Hitesh Sharma, India international Muhammed Yasir, full-back’s Ashish Rai and Akash Mishra, central defender Chinglensana Singh rose to limelight during HFC’s two impressive seasons.

In the 2020-21 ISL season, the Nizams finished fifth in the league standings and failed to make the playoffs, but their entertaining playing style won them so many fans. The team consisted of a lot of youngsters who were willing to work their socks off. Despite not qualifying for the semi-finals, the management decided to continue with head coach Manuel Marquez and as a result, the Nizams won the title. Assistant coach Singto played a pivotal role in the upbringing of the young Indian players and he will now nurture and oversee various HFC Clu and academy partnerships in Telangana as well as other parts of the country.

Singto will also assist in building the football ecosystem in the region especially Hyderabad and will work closely with the respective stakeholders. One of the core areas he will focus on is the coach education and conduct trainers program that will see coaches progress through the club and its partners. Meanwhile Shameel will take up Singto’s earlier task, of working closely with Marquez and add value to the senior team. “We have made three key appointments in the club, keeping in mind the club’s direction and vision. We want to build on last season’s success, and we believe we have the right team in place,” Hyderabad FC co-owner Varun Tripuraneni said.
