Guangzhou will play host to Wuhan Three Towns in a Chinese super League (CSL) fixture at Jinzhou Stadium on Thursday. The hosts are heading into the tie on the back of a narrow 2-1 loss at Shanghai Shenhua on Sunday, while the visitors thrashed Hebei CFFC 5-0 on the same day. Wuhan Three Towns are in stunning form, having won five of their opening six games to sit at the summit of the standings with 16 points, while the hosts are languishing at the 16th spot with just three points.
Guangzhou has managed to register just one win from their opening six games and that was against Hebei CFFC on June 19 courtesy of Yang Liyu’s lone goal. After that, the South China Tigers lost to Shanghai Shenhua. At Puwan stadium, the hosts went two goals ahead courtesy of strikes from Wang Haijian and Cao Yunding, before Wei Shihao pulled one back for Guangzhou, nine minutes from time. It was their fifth defeat of the season.
Wuhan Three Towns, on the other hand, displayed a dominant performance to get the better of Hebei. Goals from Marcao, Ademilson, Nicolae Stanciu helped Pedro Morilla’s side take a three goal lead inside the opening 45 minutes. And then, Davidson netted a second half brace to complete the drubbing and earn all three points. Having accumulated 16 of a possible 18 points, the Hubei-based side are in brilliant form and would be hoping to continue their juggernaut against Guangzhou who are still trying to find their feet in the new season.
Guangzhou’s Afrden Asqer, who missed the previous outing because of suspension, is available for Thursday’s game. Marcao and Davidson are likely to lead the attack once more and the duo will need to step up for their performance. Ademilson, He and Stanciu are likely to form the midfield trio. As for Wuhan Three Towns, Morilla is unlikely to change the winning side. Ling and Wei would form the attacking duo with Fan and Yang occupying the wings.
Guangzhou probable starting lineup: Liu; Hang, Yaki, Zhang, Tao; Ademilson, He, Stanciu, Xie; Davidson, Marcao
