Fulham continued their positive start to the season with another impressive mid-week victory. They had knocked out Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup through penalties, a result not many saw it coming. Before the start of the match, Spurs were labelled as favourites in this clash, however, the hosts did well to make life difficult for the much-fancied visitors. After the match finished 1-1 in regulation time, the game went to a penalty shootout where Fulham prevailed.

There were further positives for Fulham from the game besides the result. The Carabao Cup match against Tottenham Hotspur provided a chance for promising youngsters Tyrese Francois and Luke Harris to show their abilities. Manager Marco Silva was pleased to see them get some minutes. He particularly discussed the future of Luke Harris, as he believes the youngster will turn into a great player for the club one day.

What Marco Silva said about Luke Harris’ future?

“Unfortunately, Ty was not part of pre-season as he had an injury from last season. We expected him to start the pre-season tour but unfortunately he had a set-back. Luke is different, he had a pre-season with us, I have to say he did a very good pre-season. He’s still a very young player but I’m 100 per cent sure he is going to be the future of this Club because we really believe in him,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s website after the match.

“Let’s see what we are going to decide, whether he is going to have the whole season with us or if we let him to go play more senior football. It’s a decision we have to make in the next three or four days. I’m sure that Luke is going to be a really big player for us. I’m really pleased for them both.”

Marco Silva on win over Tottenham

Shifting the focus back on the match, Silva was happy with the win over Spurs. He also regretted conceding a goal when they were temporarily down to 10 men since Kenny Tete returned to the changing room to get new boots. “The players, they executed the plan well. We started well, the players knew in the right moments when to press. During the 97 minutes, we were the team with more chances,” the manager stated.

He added: “Unfortunately, we conceded the goal in a moment that we were with 10 men. I think in the future, we are going to approach the situation in a different way because we cannot give the chance for the opposition side to play against 10 men. The referee should do what he did, of course, keep the game going. Of course, we have to approach in a different way.”
