Fenerbahce already have one foot firmly in the group of Europa Conference League as they prepared for the second leg of their playoff tie away to FC Twente at De Grolsch Veste on Thursday. The first leg in Turkey last week saw the Yellow Canaries secure a dominant 5-1 victory over the Dutch outfit. Although Twente took the lead through Manfred Ugalde’s 20th-minute effort, the Turkish giants fought back to score five goals thanks to Irfan Kahveci’s brace and one goal each from Jayden Oosterwolde, Sebastian Szymanski and Dusan Tadic. The Tukkers now need to overturn a four goal deficit in order to continue their continental journey.

Twente earned a spot in the Second qualifying round of the Conference League courtesy of finishing fifth in the Eredivisie last term. Joseph Oosting’s side have made the perfect start to the 2023-24 season, recording two wins from as many league-fixtures. The Reds headed to Turkey on the back of a 15-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, while they hade won four and drawn one of their opening five fixtures this term. On a positive note, the Tukkers have scored 14 goals and conceded just three from their first five competitive matches of this season.
Fenerbahce, on the other hand, are in red hot form, having won each of their seven competitive games this season, while scoring 23 goals and conceding just three in the period. The Yellow Canaries overcame the likes Zimbru Chisinau and Maribor to reach the Conference League playoffs and are favourites to book a place in the group stage of the Europe’s third tier club competition. The Beacon of Light had finished second in the Turkish Superlig last term having collected 80 points from 36 games, eight points adrift of champions Galatasaray. Nevertheless, Ismail Kartal has assembled a strong squad that looks capable of securing at least one silverware this term.
