The international break has provided a relief for FPL managers, unless they used their wildcard, but now it’s time to refocus on the Premier League. As managers open the FPL app this week to finalise their squads for the upcoming games, many will be worried about the dreaded yellow and red exclamation marks. The international break inevitably brings injuries, some of which can cause significant disruption for FPL managers. To ensure you are fully informed before this weekend’s games, here’s a list of players who have sustained injuries while on international duty.

Evan Ferguson – Brighton & Hove Albion

Coming off a remarkable hat-trick against Newcastle United, which prompted 313k managers to include him in their teams, Evan Ferguson might not be fit for Brighton’s match against Manchester United. Priced at £6.0m, the center-forward had a longstanding knee injury, casting a doubt on his availability for the weekend. This is disappointing for those who have already transferred in the 18-year-old, but there is some hope that he could still play a role for the Seagulls on Saturday.

Marc Guehi – Crystal Palace

With only 1.8% of FPL managers owning Guehi, there is concern over his fitness after being substituted at halftime during a match against Scotland during the international break. Gareth Southgate mentioned feeling something at halftime and expressed hope that it wouldn’t turn out to be too serious. Crystal Palace faces an away trip to Aston Villa this weekend, and Roy Hodgson will be eager for a positive update on Guehi’s condition.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – Liverpool

Approximately 12.4% of managers are anxiously awaiting Jurgen Klopp’s pre-match press conference for an update on Alexander-Arnold’s injury. The defender had to leave the field with a hamstring issue during the match against Aston Villa and subsequently withdrew from the England squad. With Ibrahima Konate likely unavailable and Virgil van Dijk suspended, Alexander-Arnold’s absence could pose significant challenges for Liverpool’s defense in their match against Wolves.

Darwin Nunez – Liverpool

Nunez has been in superb form for Liverpool, accumulating 19 points in his last two appearances. Owned by 11.4% of FPL managers, the forward was substituted at halftime during Uruguay’s game against Ecuador, reportedly due to some muscle problems as suggested by Marcelo Bielsa. However, the extent of his potential injury remains unconfirmed. Considering Liverpool’s quick turnaround and early Saturday kick-off, there’s a reasonable chance that Nunez may be rested.

Mateo Kovacic – Manchester City

Kovacic missed both of Croatia’s international matches due to a back injury, and his fitness will be evaluated late to determine his availability against West Ham. Pep Guardiola is unlikely to rush Kovacic back, especially since Kevin De Bruyne’s injury is expected to keep him sidelined for a long period, making Kovacic an important part of the team for the remainder of 2023.

Anthony Elanga – Nottingham Forest

The recent addition to Nottingham Forest made an impact by scoring a spectacular goal against Chelsea, earning seven points in gameweek four. He could potentially be a valuable differential option in the future. However, Elanga had to withdraw from the Sweden squad due to a ‘minor injury,’ leaving Forest fans and 0.8% of FPL managers hoping it won’t turn out to be too serious.
