It is set to be an intriguing fixture between Everton and Fulham in the Carabao Cup, as both teams are doing their best to reach the semi-finals of the competition. This has been a strange season in many regards for Everton. Despite their off-the-field issues and points deduction, Sean Dyche’s men have been enjoying a good run of results lately, something that would please their supporters. Hence, Fulham know very well that they must be on top of their game to get something out of this contest.

Fulham manager Marco Silva is fully aware of it, as he expects nothing but a difficult challenge away to Everton in the Carabao Cup quarter-final. “The games are always really tough to play at Goodison. I know really well what this means. The reaction from them since to point deduction just shows their resilience,” Silva, quoted on the club’s website, ahead of the game.

He added: “The size of the Club, you can see they all click together. The fans, the team, the staff; we know when these types of things happen to a club like Everton, they are always really strong. I’m not surprised because they have very good players and a really experienced manager with a proper way to play football, knowing what he demands from his players.”

We have to be proud of it: Marco Silva

Silva is extremely happy with the direction the club is heading, especially in cup competitions. “It’s something that just shows what we have been doing in this football club, the staff and players, in the last two seasons. Also, last season we went to the Quarter-Final of the FA Cup and we wanted to be able to go through in that competition,” he stated.

He added: “We already spoke about the many reasons why we didn’t and now we are one step away from the Semi-Finals. We have to be proud of it, but we want more. We’re not just happy because we achieve the Quarter-Finals, we want to play the Semi-Finals. Of course, it’s going to be a tough one, but we have all the desire, the ambition, to go and to play this game and to be in the Semi-Finals.”

We want Goodison to be rocking: Sean Dyche

Meanwhile, Everton manager Sean Dyche said that he will name a side capable of getting the job done in this cup fixture. “We’re patching things together. We’ll have a couple back from suspension. Injuries have stretched us, but I’ll certainly be going out with the mentality to win, and putting a team out that I can believe can win. Of course, it’s a home game, as well. We want Goodison to be rocking and we want to keep the momentum,” Dyche, quoted on the club’s website, said in his pre-match press conference.

He added: “People say about all clubs: ‘Oh, why aren’t you trying to win [a cup]?’ You don’t try to lose a cup. It’s a strange thing. Trust me, we’re trying to win it. I’ve been trying to win one for years. Everyone is. This season, I’ve been trying to change the mentality from last season. And I think it’s right to go into these competitions and say: ‘Right lads, you’re playing.’ None of this, ‘Oh, am I getting rested?’ Not for me, that. I don’t enjoy all that – you’re playing. End of story. We’re trying to enhance that mentality. This game might be different because of the injuries, but I’ll wait and see what the news is.”
