Derby County will play host to Northampton Town in a League One fixture at Pride Park Stadium on Tuesday night. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of defeats last weekend, with the hosts losing 3-1 at Stevenage, while the Cobblers were beaten 2-1 by Bristol Rovers. The Rams are currently occupying ninth spot in the English third tier standings, having collected 21 points from 14 league games, while the visitors are languishing at the 20th position, with just 14 points to their name from as many games, only two clear of the relegation zone.

Derby managed to stitch together an impressive seven game unbeaten run in all competitions across September and October. However, on their return to action following the international break, the Rams suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at Shrewsbury on October 21. Although Paul Warne’s men quickly bounced back with a comprehensive 2-0 victory over Exeter City thanks to Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Conor Washington, Derby suffered their fifth league defeat of the season at Stevenage last time out. Mendez-Laing canceled out Jordan Roberts’ opener before Alex MacDonald restored Boro’s lead on the stroke of half-time and Kane Hemmings sealed their victory with an 84th-minute effort. Warne is now starting to find himself under pressure, having won just three of his last nine league matches. Their inability to find consistency leaves them in ninth place and five points shy of the playoffs, but they have two games in hand over sixth placed Stevenage.
Northampton, on the other hand, have found it tough going on their return to the English third tier, as they have recorded only four wins from 14 league-games so far. Their latest success came against Reading earlier this month thanks to one goal each from Sam Hoskins, Louis George Appere and Mitch Pinnock. After that, Northampton went on a four-game winless run, losing three times in the period. Jon Brady’s side suffered their eighth league defeat of the season against Bristol Rovers last weekend, despite the fact that Manny Monthe found the back of the net in the second-half. Hence, the Cobblers will be low on confidence ahead of their first league meeting with Derby since 1967.
Derby County probable starting lineup: Wildsmith, Nyambe, Nelson, Cashin, Forsyth, Smith, Hourihane, Barkhuizen, Bird, Mendez-Laing, Collins
Northampton Town probable starting lineup: Burge, Willis, Monthe, Sherring, Odimayo, McWilliams, Leonard, Brough, Hoskins, Pinnock, Simpson
