Despite getting his name on the scoresheet, Curtis Jones expressed his disappointment after Liverpool were denied three points in an exciting 3-3 draw with Brentford on Saturday. Jones hoped to have struck a winning goal when he cut in from the left-hand side and powerfully sent a shot past David Raya with the help of a slight deflection to make it 3-2. Jones’ effort came after strikes by Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah, who scored his 100th in the Premier League for the Reds. However, the hosts managed to level the score. Following Curtis’ stunner, Bees produced another equaliser eight minutes from time, Yoane Wissa clipping beyond Alisson Becker, to share the points.

“I got the ball and came inside and it opened up, so I saw the goal and I just hit it. I was fortunate enough that it went in,” Jones told Liverpoolfc.com. “But I’m disappointed that we never came away with all three points and we’ll definitely be going for them for the next game. We came here and we played well but they’re a good side as well, so I thought a draw was actually fair. They’re a very good side, they were hard to play against, so fair play to Brentford. That’s what happens, you know – it’s the Premier League and the teams are all good. If you’re not at 100 per cent, you get punished.”

Jones was named to Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI for the trip to Brentford Community Stadium, having previously faced Norwich City in the Carabao Cup earlier in the week. “I’ve come onto the pitch twice, I’ve started twice and I’ve felt sharp. So, I’ll try my best to carry on,” he added. “It’s very early days, of course. The gaffer has a strong team. The only thing I can do is come on and try my best.”

‘We got a point, they got a point, let’s carry on’

Earlier, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp reckoned that a draw was the fair result in the end-to-end Premier League contest against Brentford. In the post-match press conference, Klopp had said, “A wild, wild game. Offensively, I am really happy. I think in moments we played some of the best football we’ve played so far this season; we created top chances against a really well organised side. They were very good, but obviously we struggled tonight with their long balls.”

He added: “I was not too happy with how we started the game and that’s how we conceded the goal, a little bit. It was a situation where we could have been more organised. It’s not so easy, but [we needed] to be much more composed in this situation to win these little challenges. They scored at the second post; there was no space to score, but they did. We reacted well, scored really nice goals. The second half, we controlled the game better, but in the phase where we maybe played the best football, they scored the equaliser.”

“They deserved their three goals and they deserved the point. I think we could have scored more; they could have scored one more, we could have scored four or five more and it would have been even more spectacular. But it’s fine, we got a point, they got a point, let’s carry on.”
