Cristiano Ronaldo makes history and breaks another record after starting for Portugal in their Euro 2024 qualifier against Iceland. The Portuguese legend becomes the first male player to reach 200 appearances in international football games. Even at the age of 38 Ronaldo shows no signs of stopping and is still an influential and key figure for Portugal. He has scored a total of 122 goals in 199 appearances for the Portugal national team, which is also an record in the history of international football.

The Portuguese legend would love to score a goal on this historic and legendary day. Ronaldo’s last goal for Portugal came in against Luxembourg in March 2023. Roberto Martinez’s side is on a red hot form right now and the ex Belgium coach has had a fine start to his Portugal career, winning all of his games till now. He would be wanting to add another win to his tally and continuing the winning form.

Cristiano Ronaldo will stay with Portugal

There have been many speculations around Cristiano Ronaldo’s future with Portugal. There were even rumors that Ronaldo was considering retirement from the Portugal national team after their disappointing exit from 2022 FIFA World Cup. Later on, in an interview with GOAL, Ronaldo clarified that he will continue to represent Portugal as its his dream.

He said, “I’ll stay here until I, the [football federation] president and the coach believe I can. I’ll never give up coming here, because it’s always a dream. Representing the national team is the height of the career. I want to keep playing, make my family, friends and Portuguese happy.”

Ronaldo has won 2016 UEFA Euros, 2019 UEFA Nations League with Portugal and will probably give his last shot at the World Cup in 2026.
