The struggles continue for Chelsea despite changing the manager in the summer. The Blues made a lot of changes to their side last season. Be it in the transfer market or with coaches, there were plenty happening in the background. That instability affected the team’s performance on the pitch, with Chelsea failing to even finish in the top half of the table. Plenty of money has been invested in the summer transfer window once again this season yet their poor run of form has continued.

What is even more worrying for Chelsea is their dreadful home form. The Blues have won only once in their last 13 Premier League matches at Stamford Bridge – a stat that has caused a massive concern among their supporter base. That lone victory came against Luton Town in August. Despite the team showing enough promise in certain home games, they are just not able to get the three points consistently. Their manager Mauricio Pochettino has explained how they intend to fix that problem.

How to fix the poor home form?

“It’s something we need to fix. I don’t think I’m worried but we feel the responsibility and we will try to find the solution. The key is to create a good atmosphere. You need the right way between the fans and the team. The team need to translate the idea of the fans so they can trust them. It works both ways. That is time. We have talented players but we are a new team. We are competing but we are missing things,” the manager was quoted as saying on the club’s website.

Pochettino also had an interesting take on the matter, saying how the mood has changed in certain situations when they had conceded a goal. “You sense the mood changes when we concede. We need to build trust. Sometimes you have to accept the game is going in a direction you don’t want. You need to be calm in this moment, and have the character to say ‘okay, it’s in a different direction but we are mature enough to play the way we should’. We will work on it,” he stated.

Mauricio Pochettino on Brentford loss

Chelsea’s latest home defeat in the Premier League came at the weekend when they lost 2-0 to Brentford. After the game, Pochettino said that the problem stemmed from the fact that his side failed to take their opportunities in the first half. “The analysis is clear because in the first half we should score and we didn’t score. That’s easy. When you dominate and create chances, don’t concede chances, and the opponent doesn’t cross the halfway line, you should score,” he explained.

The manager added: “If you don’t score, you need blame yourself. So we blame ourselves because we were not nasty and clinical in front of the goal. Sometimes you need some luck too and if that happens, it changes the game in the second half. We kept the belief even though we didn’t score but in the second half we can’t concede this type of goal. It is our mistake and that is why we lose the game.”
