The Seagulls are heading into the match on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United, while Rayo were beaten 3-2 by Real Valladolid.
Brighton & Hove Albion will round off their preparations for the 2023-24 campaign with a pre-season friendly against Rayo Vallecano at Falmer Stadium on Sunday. The Seagulls are set to begin their Premier League season at home to newly-promoted Luton Town on August 12, while Rayo will kickoff their La Liga campaign away to Almeria on August 11. Meanwhile, both sides are heading into the match on the back of defeats, with the hosts losing 2-1 to Newcastle United in their final Premier League Summer Series fixture in USA last weekend, while the visitors were beaten 3-2 by Real Valladolid in the mid-week.

Brighton are preparing for their first ever European campaign, having finished sixth in the Premier League last term and thereby qualifying for the Europa League. But the Seagulls haven’t had a great pre-season so far, having recorded two defeats and a victory from three friendlies in USA this summer. Roberto de Zerbi’s side started off with a 4-3 defeat to Chelsea on July 22, before getting the better of Brentford 2-0 four days later, thanks to Simon Adingra’s brace. However, the Albion couldn’t build on that success, as they were beaten by the Magpies last weekend, despite taking the lead through Danny Welbeck’s 49th-minute effort. Brighton have also been very active in the transfer market this summer, signing the likes of Joao Pedro, Bart Verbruggen, Igor, Adrian Mazilu, Mahmoud Dahoud and James Milner. But, Alexis Mac Allister has been a major departure, with the Argentine midfielder joining Liverpool in a big money move.
Rayo, on the other hand, have played four friendlies this summer, starting with a narrow 1-0 win over Panathinaikos before playing out back-to-back 1-1 draw against Charleroi and FC Porto. However, the Red Stripes suffered their first defeat of the pre-season against Valladolid on Wednesday despite the fact that Alvaro Garcia scored a second-half brace. It was also their first defeat under new boss Francisco, who has come in to replace Andoni Iraola. Franjirrojos had a successful campaign under Iraola last term, finishing 11th in the La Liga Santander, just four points behind seventh-placed Osasuna, and they will be bidding to repeat that success or improve on that in the coming season. There have been only three incomings thus far, with Florian lejeune, Alfonso Espino and Adriane Hernandez arriving at Estadio de Vallecas.
Brighton & Hove Albion probable starting lineup: Steele, Gross, Veltman, Van Hecke, Estupinan, Caicedo, Dahoud, Buonanotte, Pedro, Mitoma, Welbeck
Rayo Vallecano probable starting lineup: Dimitrievski, Balliu, Lejeune, Aridane, Espino, Valentin, Ciss, U Lopez, Salvi, De Tomas, Nteka
