Brazil will be looking to seal their qualification into the knockout stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup when they take on Switzerland in a Group G fixture at Stadium 974- Ras Abu Aboud on Monday evening. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of victories in their opening match on Thursday. The Selecao secured a convincing 2-0 win over Serbia, while Switzerland got the better of Cameroon 1-0. Tite’s side dominated from the first whistle against the Eagles, who were fancied to be one of the dark horses in the tournament. Switzerland, meanwhile, were involved in an end-to-end encounter against the Indomitable Lions but managed to secure all three points.

Vinicius vs Sillvan Widmer

Vinicius was one of the best players for Brazil in the last game against the Eagles. The Real Madrid-man was a livewire  down the left flank and was involved in both the goals scored by Brazil. The 22-year-old’s 62nd-minute effort from the left side of the penalty box was well saved by the Serbia goalkeeper V. Milinkovic Savic, but Richarlison was lurking in front of goal to tuck in from close range. And then, a few moments later, Vinicius provided the assist for the former Everton-man to score his second of the night. Since Neymar will not be available for the remaining group fixtures because of an ankle injury, the onus would be on Vinicius to provide the spark up front. He is extremely quick with the ball and has great composure inside the box, therefore the Swiss right-back Silvan Widmer will have a task in hand on Monday. Widmer will need to stay as close to the attacker as possible and not go down easily while defending against Vinicius.

Richarlison vs Manuel Akanji

Rciharlison would be high on confidence having scored two goals in his first ever World Cup match. The 25-year-old netted two times from his first three touches in the game. He had very little involvement in the first half of the game against the Eagles but the Spurs player was clinical enough to find the back of the net when the chance arrived. On Monday, he will be up against Manchester City’s highly rated defender Manuel Akanji. The 27-year-old, who made his international debut in 2017, has been a regular starter at the heart of the Swiss defence, having made 44 international appearances thus far.

Xherdan Shaqiri vs Alex Sandro

Switzerland are expected to have very little ball possession against the Selecao and more likely or not will rely on quick counter-attacks to get on the score-sheet. Xherdan Shaqiri could be key-man for the Red Crosses while going forward as the 31-year-old has the ability to take on defenders with his tricks and has also got a powerful left foot. The former Liverpool-man is participating in his fourth World Cup finals and has scored 26 goals for Switzerland in 110 appearances. Shaqiri will be up against Brazilian left-back Alex Sandro who wasn’t tested enough against Serbia last time out, but this time around, the Juvents-man will need to be on his toes. The 31-year-old, who has 38 international caps to his name, is participating in his first World Cup finals.
