Braga and Cardiff City will continue their preparations for their respective 2023-24 seasons when they lock horns in a pre-season friendly at Municipal de Lagos on Wednesday night. The Archbishops are heading into the match on the back of a 2-0 win over Boavista on Saturday, while Cardiff played two 60-minute games against Bristol Rovers, winning 2-1. Braga had a solid season in the Primeira Liga last term, securing a third-place finish, while The Bluebirds managed to avoid relegation courtesy of finishing at the 21st spot in the Championship standings, just four points clear of the relegation zone.

Braga have never won the Portuguese top flight title, but they have secured a top four finish in each of their last five Primeira Liga season’s. Las term, the Archbishops collected 78 points from 34 games, nine points adrift of champions Benfica. Nevertheless, the Minho Warriors earned a Europa League qualification. Artur Jorge’s side had a solid end to their campaign, collecting 23 points from their last ten league-games, while also reaching the final of Taca de Portugal, but they ultimately lost 2-0 to Porto in Lisbon. Meanwhile, the Arsenalists have started their pre-season on appositive note, recording back-to-back wins over Torreense (4-0) and Boavista (2-0). The Archbishops got the better of Boavista last time out thanks to first-half efforts from Simon Banza and Al Musrati.

Cardiff City, on the other hand, collected just 49 points from 46 in the 2022-23 English second tier and thereby managed to extend their stay in the Championship for a fifth successive season. The Bluebirds made a managerial change in the summer, with Erol Bulut replacing Sabri Lamouchi at the helm. The 48-year-old tactician has already overseen four friendlies, recording three wins and one draw in the process. The two most recent games have come against Bristol Rovers, in what were only 60-minute matches. Meanwhile, Cardiff have recently completed the signing of former Arsenal and Juventus player Aaron Ramsey from French club Nice.
