Blackburn are going through a torrid period having not tasted victory in their last five outings, while losing four consecutive games in the period. The Riversiders earned a league-point against Rotherham on New Year’s Day thanks to one goal each from Arnor Sigurdsson and Sammie Szmodics. Their last success came against Bristol City in the Championship in the second week of last month. Though progress in the FA Cup will come secondary to moving up the second tier table, Jon Dahl Romasson’s side would be desperate to secure a home-win against a team playing in the third division of English football. Moreover, Blackburn reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup last season, where they were beaten 3-2 by Sheffield United.
Cambridge United, on the other hand, recorded three wins and a draw from their first four games of December, but then ended the year with 2-1 defeat away to Oxford United, before suffering a 2-0 loss against Leyton Orient on New Year’s Day. Second-half efforts from Jordan Brown and Dan Agyei handed the U’s their 11th League One defeat of the season. Nevertheless, Neil Harris’ side currently sit four points clear of the relegation zone. Meanwhile, the U’s reached this far in the FA Cup courtesy of getting the better of Bracknell and Fleetwood, thrashing the latter 4-0 with three strikes coming in the opening 13 minutes at Abbey Stadium on December 2.
