West Bromwich Albion will be looking to make it three successive wins in the EFL Championship when they travel to St Andrews Stadium to take on Birmingham City on Friday night. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of victories in the mid-week, with the hosts thrashing Huddersfield Town 4-1, while the Baggies edged past Sheffield Wednesday 1-0. The Blues are currently occupying 12th spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 15 points from 10 games, while the visitors are sitting at the fifth position with 16 points to their name.

Birmingham kicked off their 2023-24 campaign with a 1-1 Championship-draw away to Swansea City on August 5. The Blues then went on to get the better of Cheltenham 2-0 in the EFL Cup first round tie, before registering back-to-back league-wins over Leeds United, Bristol City and Plymouth Argyle. But since then Joghn Eustace’s side went on a six game winless run across all competitions, losing four matches in the period, before finally getting the better of Huddersfield last time out. Birmingham raced to a 2-0 lead inside the opening 23 minutes against the Terriers thanks to Sirki Dembele and Koji Miyoshi. While Dembele completed his brace with a 64th-minute effort, Michal Helik pulled one back for the visitors two minutes into the injury time, but Jordan James’ late strike restored Birmingham’s three goal cushion and sealed the victory. Moreover, the result extended the Blues’ unbeaten run at home to five-second tier games this term.

Since the 2-1 defeat to Huddersfied at the start of last month, West Brom have put together a five-games unbeaten run, registering three successive draws against the likes of Bristol City, Watford and Millwall, before getting the better of Preston North End and Sheffield Wednesday. The Baggies thrashed third-placed Preston 4-0 at Deepdale on September 30 thanks to one goal each from Darnell Furlong, Alex Mowatt, Matthew Phillips and Kyle Bartley. Three days later, Carlos Coberan’s side secured a narrow victory over rock bottom side Sheffield Wednesday through John smith’s lone goal inside the opening 13 minutes. It was West Brom’s fourth top flight victory of the season. Meanwhile, West Brom have been pretty good on their travel this season, having not tasted defeat since the 2-1 loss at Blackburn Rovers in their second tier opener on August 5, while taking six points from a possible 12 in the process.
