The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 4-2 win over Girona last Friday, while Newcastle suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at Mainz in their recent outing. The Portuguese outfit didn’t have a great 2021-22 campaign, finishing third in the Primeira Liga, collecting 74 points from 34 games, which left them 17 points behind the champions Porto. Newcastle, on the other hand, managed to secure an 11th spot finish in the 2021-22 Premier League table with 49 points from 38 games.

Benfica have won all of their four pre-season friendlies so far, starting with a 2-0 win over Reading, before getting the better of Nice (3-0), Fulham (51) and Girona. After the game against Newcastle, Roger Schmidt’s side will take on either AEK Larnaca or Midtjylland in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League third round qualifying, before beginning their new Premiera Liga season at home against Arouca on August 6. The Portuguese outfit have made two notable summer signings in the form of Enzo Fernandez and David Neres.
Newcastle, on the other hand, haven’t been very active in the transfer market with Sven Botman being the only notable summer signing so far. The Magpies began their pre-season with a 5-1 win over Gateshead before thrashing 1860 Munich 3-0 and then lost against Mainz. Eddie Howe’ side will also face Atlanta and Athletic Bilbao next Saturday before kicking-off their 2022-23 Premier League season at home against Nottingham Forest on August 6.

Luca Verissimo has been a long-term absentee for Benfica while the rest of the squad fit. Schmidt is likely to opt for a strong starting eleven on Tuesday as it will be their final friendly before getting into competitive action next Tuesday. Nicolas Otamendi is likely to partner Morato in the central defence with Gilberto and Grimaldo occupying the flanks. Goncalo Ramos could be the striker with Rafa Silva and Neres in support. As for Newcastle, Jamal Lewis, Federico Fernandez, Fabian Schar and Javier Manquillo are doubtful because of injuries. Kieran Trippier is likely to start at the right back position. Wilson is expected to be the centre-forward with Saint-Maximin and Fraser occupying the flanks.
