Trabzonspor will travel to Switzerland on Thursday to take on Basel in the second leg of their Europa Conference League playoff tie. Basel will need to overturn a one-goal deficit at St Jakob Park on Thursday to reach the last-16 of the competition. Last season, Rotblau reached the round of 16 of the tournament before losing 4-2 on aggregate to Ligue 1 outfit Marseille. As of now, Heiko Vogel’s side are sitting at the sixth-position in the Swiss Super League standings, having collected 26 points from 21 games, 20 points adrift of leaders Young Boys. Meanwhile they are heading into the continental fixture, on the back of a 2-2 draw in the top flight on Sunday, thanks to second-half efforts from Zeki Amdouni and andi Zeqiri. Trabzonspor, on the other hand, are also sitting at the sixth position in the Turkish Super lig table, with 38 points to their name from 22 matches, 16 adrift of leaders Galatasaray. Black Sea Storm are unlikely to defend their Turkish league title. But Avci’s side clearly have the upper hand in the conference League playoff tie and are seeking to reach the last-16 stage of a European competition for the first time in their 55-year history.
