Altay Bayindir to Manchester United: The new signing reveals his conversation with Tom Heaton

Onana will undoubtedly be the club’s first choice, while, the 25-year-old Turkey international will be his back-up option.

The latest player to join Manchester United is Turkish goalkeeper Altay Bayindir. He has put pen to paper on a deal that will last until June 2027, with the option of a further year, subject to international clearance. United have already made a few signings earlier this window. Mason Mount arrived from Chelsea, Rasmus Hojlund joined from Atalanta and Andre Onana was acquired from Inter Milan. With Bayindir’s deal being completed, he will be the second goalkeeper to join the Red Devils this summer.

There was a lot of excitement when Andre Onana had made the switch from Inter Milan due to his ball playing ability from the back. He has also showcased his potential in the Premier League so far this season. Onana will undoubtedly be the club’s first choice, while, the 25-year-old Turkey international will be his back-up option. After completing the move, Altay Bayindir expressed his delight at make the switch to the Old Trafford outfit.

“It is a huge honour to join Manchester United and become the first Turkish player to represent this incredible club. I have a passion for success, and I will give everything to help this special group of players to achieve our ambitions. I cannot wait to start working with such an experienced goalkeeping unit. We will support each other and drive high standards every day so that each of us is ready to perform whenever called upon,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s website.

Bayindir will be fighting for a starting spot with Andre Onana and Tom Heaton for the season. The new signing revealed that he has already spoken with Heaton on his first day at the club.  “Yeah, of course. I spoke with Tom Heaton [on] my first day. He is a quality person. He said ‘if you need something, you can tell me about everything’,” he explained.

“He is a very good person and I am thinking the same about every goalkeeper and we are a team. We are together now. We will fight together and with Onana, with Tom Heaton, and with young goalkeepers, we are family. We are on the pitch together. We will fight for Manchester United.”

Next up for Manchester United is a difficult encounter away to Arsenal in the Premier League. It will be interesting to see if Bayindir will be involved in that game. Speaking ahead of the match, in a pre-match press conference, manager Erik ten Hag narrated the process behind Bayindir’s arrival to Old Trafford. “Yeah, we followed him, scouted him very intensely and we think he has the skills to fit in Man United, to fit in English football,” the manager told journalists at Carrington. So, we are really glad that we signed him and we are confident that he will make a lot of progress in the coming period in the coming years and he will be a huge contribution to our game,” he elaborated.
