On December 27, the first day of the Battlegrounds Mobile India Series (BGIS) 2021 Online Qualifiers Round 3 came to a close. The matches for Groups 1 to 4 took place today, and the top four teams from each group qualified for the big event’s Quarter-Finals following fierce fighting. However, one of the biggest teams in India– Velocity Gaming failed to make it to the next round.

Popular and fan-favourite squad Velocity Gaming, called VLT, was recently removed from the competition after a dismal showing, which came as a shock to BGMI esports enthusiasts. In the three matches they played, the team only managed to score six points, and they were eliminated early each time.

VLT was in Group 3 with another top invited team, Team XO, who had a fantastic day, scoring 61 points in three matches and nearly qualifying for the Quarter-Finals.

Even though one of their elite players, Snax, gave it his all on the Miramar map, the team lost practically all of their gunfights, and it wasn’t enough to get them over the finish line.

Velocity Gaming had already signed TeamIND’s ex-roster in November. However, entering into Round 3 of BGIS, the team wasn’t in the best of shape. The team placed 30th out of 32 teams in the official scrims held ahead of the India series.

The drop in performance could be related to the team’s regular role changes. Previously, when the team was still a part of TeamIND, Slayer (now a part of Global Esports) was occasionally involved as an IGL.

In response to this performance, Velocity Gaming said that they would return stronger in the future.

Along with Velocity Gaming, another invited team, Heroes Official, from Group 1, was unable to advance to the Quarter-Finals.

Hyderabad Hydras, OREsports, Nigma Galaxy, and Global Esports were among the invited teams who qualified from their respective groups.

The BGIS 2021 Round 3 will run until December 30, 2021, after which the 64 teams (top four teams from each of the 16 groups) will compete for a spot in the 24-team Semi-Final stage.
