Tencent announced today that an Indian team will receive a direct invite to the PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2021 Finals.

When the PMGC structure was announced last month, Indian supporters were dismayed to see that no berth in the league stage was reserved for an Indian club. The league stage is split into two regions: East and West, with 20 teams competing in each.

It will take place from Nov. 30 to Dec. 24, with the top nine teams from the East and West qualifying for the finals, respectively. To battle for the title of PUBG Mobile world champions, these 15 teams will be joined by an invited team from India. The finals will be held on the 21st and 23rd of January.

Who will represent India in PMGC?

Tencent has not stated how the invited slot to the PMGC finals would be determined. The victor of the Battlegrounds Mobile India Series 2021, which is the first big event since the game’s reintroduction, is most likely to receive an invite. It will have open qualifications leading up to the finals, which will take place from January 13 to 16. Tencent has been contacted by Dot Esports for comment.

For the first time since the World League (PMWL) in July 2020, the PMGC Finals will signal India’s return to the global esports calendar for PUBG Mobile. On September 2, 2020, PUBG Mobile was banned in India, putting an end to esports contests in the country. India is a huge PUBG Mobile market, and a squad from the nation competing in the PMGC Finals will undoubtedly increase viewership.

PUBG Mobile Esports just shared a format explainer for PMGC 2021 on their social media accounts, and the finals column has piqued Indian interest.

“To support the restart of Indian PUBG MOBILE Esports, PMGC has given the Grand Finals invitational slot to India to ensure the highest possible level of global competition.”

India competing in PMGC

After the game was banned, Indian teams were prevented from competing in official PUBG Mobile competitions, and even after the game’s reappearance in the form of BGMI, the game’s future in esports was unknown.

The Battlegrounds Mobile India Series 2021 has been announced by Krafton as their first regional esport event, however it has yet to begin in the country. There is a good chance that the BGIS champions will be given a seeding place.

This is fantastic news for Indian BGMI teams, since they will be able to compete in a worldwide competition for the first time. Orange Rock came within inches of winning on a worldwide scale the last time, and it would be intriguing to watch how Indian rosters perform after a two-year absence.
