Previously in Episode 3

Visual jokes and louder, more generalized humor were prominent in an earlier episode. After their initial encounter in Episode 2, Kafka finds himself at odds with Shinomiya, a 16-year-old sensation widely hailed as the “greatest talent ever.”

Even so, Kafka continues to compete against her in a biased manner. The outcomes of his medical examination were disappointing, unfortunately. He comes in at 219th out of 225 candidates, with Shinomiya coming in at 5th. It’s a disappointing way to start the day, especially because he and Ichikawa had intended to compensate for any aptitude deficiencies in the physical.

Scenes involving Kafka and Ichikawa remain to generate some of the most laughter in Episode 3 of Kaiju No. 8. Even though he’s only 18 years old, the latter takes on a guarded, concerned attitude around Kafka. This is particularly evident when he emphasizes the possibility that Kafka would unintentionally disclose his kaiju abilities.

Powers that Kafka becomes increasingly certain he ought to be utilizing as the testing advances. Although he values the other competitors’ hard work and dedication to the competition, he can’t help but wish that his new abilities could take the lead.

Despite their dismal performance on the physical, Ichikawa persuades Kafka that they are well-positioned to succeed on the aptitude test. In the prior two years, candidates were required to demonstrate their knowledge beyond fighting kaiju by disposing of their bodies.
