Previously in Chapter 31

In a heated but ultimately one-sided confrontation, the sorcerer—who is now known to be Hishaku’s leader and the one responsible for Kunishige Rokuhira’s demise—engages Chihiro. Chihiro swings his Cloud Gouger sword in an attack, but the leader of the Hishaku clan skillfully dodges. The head of the Hishaku forces tells Chihiro to stop resisting in vain and listen to him as the fighting goes on.

But Chihiro’s fury and desperation make him a poor judge. The result is that he assaults the Hishaku leader carelessly, which is an easy way to defeat him. Looking at the Cloud Gouger blade, he wonders if its weakening power is because of damage or Chihiro’s lack of experience. After Chihiro claims his present strength isn’t enough to face him, he confines him in the tree-like structure that obstructs his way to Hakuri.

Above ground, Kyora Sazanami starts bidding on the Shinuchi Enchanted Blade at the Rakuzaichi auction. He begins his explanation of the blades’ importance by bringing them to the Seitei War, when the skill of Kunishige Rokuhira was crucial in defeating an unknown enemy. The leader of the Hishaku clan admits to Chihiro that he got himself entangled in the Rakuzaichi auction in order to get his hands on the Shinuchi for personal use.
