India dominated Sri Lanka in all aspects in the first T20I at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Ishan Kishan’s brilliant 89 and a 25-ball fifty from Shreyas Iyer helped India reach 199/2. A disciplined bowling performance from India saw them restrict Sri Lanka to 137/6 as Rohit Sharma’s side registered their 10th consecutive win. Venkatesh Iyer and Bhuvneshwar Kumar took two wickets apiece. Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja took a wicket each.

When Yuzvendra Chahal took the wicket of Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka, the legspinner achieved a new record. Chahal took his 67th wicket in Twenty20 Internationals. This surpassed the mark of 66 set by India pacer Jasprit Bumrah. This made Yuzvendra Chahal the leading wicket-taker in Twenty20 Internationals for India. Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh leads the overall tally with 117 wickets from 94 matches.

Only four players have taken over 100 wickets in Twenty20 Internationals. Shakib Al Hasan, Lasith Malinga, and Tim Southee are the only bowlers to take 100 wickets in all three formats. Rashid Khan is the other player to have taken 100 wickets in this format. Chahal, Bumrah, R Ashwin, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are the only Indian players to take over 50 wickets in this format. Chahal managed to break the record when Shanaka tried to invent something. The Sri Lanka skipper tried to reverse sweep the bowler but he ended up picking the fielder at backward point. Yuzvendra Chahal is the only Indian bowler to have taken a five-wicket haul in Twenty20 Internationals. In 2017, Chahal picked up 6/25 against England in Bangalore which remains the best figures by an Indian in this format.

Chahal and Bhuvneshwar are the only bowlers from India to have taken a five-wicket haul in this format. Bhuvneshwar took his maiden five-wicket haul of 5/24 during the T20I clash against South Africa in Johannesburg. India is gunning for a record 11th straight win after the end of the ICC World T20 2021. After losing to Pakistan and New Zealand, India has whitewashed New Zealand and West Indies in addition to winning three league games in the World T20. Under Rohit Sharma, India has made a fabulous start and a win in Dharamshala will ensure that India takes revenge for their loss in the previous series against Sri Lanka. In 2021, India lost a T20I series for the first time to Sri Lanka, with Wanindu Hasaranga spinning a web.
