T20 World Cup 2024: Unveiling New Formats, Groups, and Super 8 Stage

In the aftermath of the ODI World Cup 2023, cricket enthusiasts can look forward to yet another exhilarating ICC event scheduled for June 2024—the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup. Infused with an innovative format, this tournament will witness the participation of 20 teams, igniting fierce competition on the global cricketing platform. The recently concluded Africa Qualifier solidified Namibia and Uganda’s positions as participants in the upcoming T20 World Cup, finalizing the roster for the event co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA.

T20 World Cup 2024 format:

The top eight teams from the T20 World Cup 2022—England, Pakistan, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands—secured automatic qualification. Host nations, the West Indies and the USA, joined this elite group. Afghanistan and Bangladesh earned spots as the next highest-ranked unqualified teams as of November 14, 2022. Additionally, eight more teams—Scotland, Ireland, Papua New Guinea, Nepal, Oman, Canada, Namibia, and Uganda—earned entries through regional qualifiers.

Format of T20 World Cup 2024:
The 20 qualified teams will be divided into four groups, each comprising five teams. Employing a round-robin format, teams will face each other once, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Super 8 stage.

Super 8 Stage in the 2024 T20 World Cup:
Transitioning to the Super 8 stage, the eight qualifying teams will be divided into two groups of four each. Engaging in a round-robin series, each team will face others in their group. The top two teams from both Super 8 groups will progress to the semi-finals, setting the stage for the climax of the T20 World Cup 2024.
