Umesh Yadav, who last represented the Indian cricket team during the World Test Championship final against Australia in June 2023, exhibited apparent disappointment following his exclusion from the squad for the final three matches of the Test series against England. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled the squad on Saturday, sidelining Shreyas Iyer, while Virat Kohli’s ongoing absence was attributed to personal reasons. The inclusion of Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul was contingent on fitness clearance from the BCCI’s medical team.

The squad announcement suggested a strategic shift, evident in the omission of seasoned players such as Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, and Umesh Yadav. Despite the batting lineup’s relative lack of experience and a heavy reliance on Jasprit Bumrah in the pace-bowling department, the selectors appeared to be embracing a new direction.
