The third and final ODI between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will take place at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota on Wednesday, June 7. Sri Lanka beat the visitors by 132 runs in the second ODI on June 4 to level the series 1-1 as well. However, after winning the toss, Sri Lankan captain Shanaka decided to bat first. Opener Dimuth Karunaratne (52 off 62) and wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis (78 off 75) helped them put up a 324-run target in 50 overs. Meanwhile, Afghanistan, who won the first ODI, struggled against Sri Lanka’s batting order as well. Fareed Ahmad and Mohammad Nabi claimed two wickets, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Noor Ahmad picked up one each as well.
During the second innings, Sri Lanka bowlers did well in restricting Afghanistan to 191 in 42.1 overs as well. All-rounder Dhananjaya de Silva played a key role in Sri Lanka’s win, picking up a three-wicket haul. He removed Ibrahim Zardan (54 off 75), Shahidi (57 off 62), and Najibullah Zadran, giving away just 39 runs in his ten-over spell. Apart from de Silva, Wanindu Hasaranga also picked up three wickets, while Dushmantha Chameera claimed two, and Maheesh Theekshana and Shanaka scalped one each. However, both sides will be trying to clinch the series when Sri Lanka and Afghanistan play against each other in the series decider.
The tournament will be seen on Sony Sports Network, Sony Sports Ten 5, and Sony Sports Ten 5 HD in India.
