The 2023 Indian Premier League final between Chennai Super Kings and the Gujarat Titans is taking place on Monday, May 29 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Chennai Super Kings won the toss and opted to bowl. Gujarat Titans openers Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill got off to a flying start. However, fans witnessed another brilliant glovework from CSK captain MS Dhoni, who pulled off a lightning-quick stumping to dismiss Shubman Gill for 39 off 20.

Batting first, the Gujarat Titans openers started the batting onslaught. Gill, however, got a life early on in the innings, by Deepak Chahar. He dropped an easy catch when he was batting at three off Tushar Deshpande’s bowling. The right-handed batter then accelerated the innings with 7 boundaries. However, stunning glove work from MS Dhoni ended his stay at the crease as well.

However, it happened in the seventh over, when Ravindra Jadeja bowled a length delivery around the off-stump. Shubman Gill came forward to drive the ball but missed it. His backfoot was out of the crease while playing the shot and MS Dhoni did no mistake to whip off the bails. He was very quick to rattle the stumps to dismiss the in-form Shubman Gill as well.

It was the crowd that suffered the most: MS Dhoni

However, the 2023 Indian Premier League final was scheduled to be played on Sunday but it had to be moved to reserve day after rain played spoilsport in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 28. The fans were disappointed as well as faced problems due to the heavy rain.

While talking about the fans and pitch, MS Dhoni said at the toss as quoted by Cricbuzz, “We’ll bowl first with the rain forecast being around. Yesterday we were in the dressing room. As a cricketer you always want to play. It was the crowd that suffered the most. Hopefully we can entertain them. Pitch has been under cover for a long time, but throughout the tournament the pitch has behaved well over here. Quite happy it will be a 20-over game we’ll be playing. Serves justice to the tournament like this. Same team.”
