Chennai Super Kings won their record-fifth Indian Premier League title, where Ravindra Jadeja showed his batting skill and took the team home at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Jadeja hit a six and a four off Mohit Sharma as MS Dhoni-led CSK needed 10 runs off the final two deliveries. They defeated the defending champions in the last-ball thriller in Ahmedabad that was earlier marred by rain as the summit clash was scheduled to be played on Sunday (May 28).

The CSK batters gave their captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni the ideal “farewell” gift in what may turn out to be his final appearance in the cash-rich league. Chennai Super Kings have now equalled the record of five IPL titles held by none other than Mumbai Indians as well. However, after a rain delay, Chennai got a revised target of 171 in 15 overs, and they reached their without many hiccups, considering a flying start by their in-form openers.

Ruturaj Gaikwad scored a quick 26 off 16. Devon Conway took the charge in the chase with a score of 47 off 25, followed by cameos from Ajinkya Rahane (27) and Shivam Dube, who scored an unbeaten 32, to pave the way for Jadeja’s heroics as well. With 13 needed off the last over, Mohit Sharma bowled four brilliant deliveries before Jadeja scored the winning runs in Ahmedabad as well. However, MS Dhoni, who was taking part in his 250th IPL match, was dismissed for a first-ball duck but in his 10th appearance in the IPL final match as the captain of Chennai, he emerged victorious as well.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans, who finished first on the points table in the league stage won the title last year which was also their maiden season as well. They scored 214-4, all thanks to Sai Sudharsan’s 96 off 47 balls. A 20-ball 39 was scored by Gujarat’s in-form opener Shubman Gill who got two lives as Deepak Chahar missed an easy catch from fast bowler Tushar Deshpande early in the game. But, Dhoni’s lightning-quick glovework returned him off Jadeja as well. Later, Hardik Pandya also scored 21 off 12.
