As the Pakistan cricket team, under the leadership of Shan Masood, readies itself for the forthcoming Test series against Australia, the squad arrived in Australia well in advance, putting behind a disappointing ODI World Cup campaign. The series, spanning from December 14 to January 7, carries significance as Pakistan endeavours to maintain its top position in the World Test Championship cycle, while Australia occupies the fourth spot.

However, a widely circulated image on social media featuring Pakistan players independently loading their luggage onto a container truck at Sydney airport sparked extensive discussions. Speaking to the media on Sunday, fast bowler Shaheen Afridi clarified that this spontaneous action was a collaborative effort aimed at saving time, given the team’s tight schedule with only 30 minutes before their next flight.

“We only had 30 minutes to catch our next flight, and we helped because there were just two people. We wanted to wrap it up fast and to save time,” explained Shaheen before the team’s inaugural practice session in Canberra. Underscoring the team’s familial camaraderie, he remarked, “We call this team a family and helped them as a family.”

Pakistan faces the historical challenge of not securing a Test series victory in Australia, with their closest attempt in 1979 resulting in a draw. Furthermore, their last Test triumph in Australia dates back to 1995, and they have encountered 14 consecutive defeats since. Despite these hurdles, Shaheen expressed optimism, stating, “We have played against the recently announced Australia’s 14-member squad, and we are all up for this challenge.” He acknowledged the unfamiliarity with Canberra but believed the upcoming four-day match against PM XI would enhance their readiness for the series commencing in Perth.
