In the IPL 2024 auction, Shahrukh Khan, the Tamil Nadu all-rounder, was acquired by the Gujarat Titans for a hefty sum of Rs 7.4 crore. The bidding war for Shahrukh between the Punjab Kings and the Gujarat Titans culminated in his selection by the latter. Prior to the auction, Shahrukh had been released by the Punjab Kings, which freed up Rs 9 crore. Although Shahrukh showcased his power-hitting ability against pace, he struggled against wrist-spinners. Despite his mediocre white-ball season with Tamil Nadu, his reputation as a finisher and his exceptional performance in the TNPL 2023 made him a valuable asset during the auction.
Shahrukh Khan’s IPL adventure started with the Punjab Kings, playing 33 matches. In 2023, he showed a 160+ strike rate, but steady performance evaded him. However, his batting talent and finishing matches skilfully caught the Gujarat Titans’ eye, securing a premium price. Moreover, Shahrukh’s all-around abilities shone in TNPL 2023 – he was the top wicket-taker with 17 in 9 games at 6.66 economy. Though triumphant domestically, Shahrukh is yet to display his bowling in the IPL.
