The IPL auction has begun with a frenzied atmosphere at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. We already have seen the highest IPL bid for the Australian skipper Pat Cummins at 20.5 cr. A total of 333 cricketers will go under the hammer. Out of these, around 214 players are Indians and 119 are overseas players. Furthermore, there are 2 players from the associate nations. The list has 116 capped players, 215 uncapped players and 2 players from associate nations. Gujarat Titans will enter the auction with the highest remaining purse while Lucknow Super Giants have the lowest money left for the event.
The third set was relatively a short one with only 5 players in the fray to go at each other. Set 3 opened with the young right-hand wicket-keeper batsman Tristan Stubbs who recently made his debut last year. Stubbs was followed by the young, dynamic and energetic Indian wicket-keeper batsman Srikar Bharat. From a ball boy interacting with Zaheer Khan in 2004 to sharing the dressing room with the Indian pacer in the IPL, Bharat has come a long way. The talented wicket-keeper batsman holds the distinct record of being the first wicket-keeper to score a triple ton in the Ranji Trophy. Naturally, such a prized asset will be a good addition to the squad of any side.
Kolkata Knight Riders sensing the need for a strong wicket-keeper batsman went after the youngster. Subsequently, the Knight Riders got the youngster at a very economical rate for the base price. However, there was not much action apart from these two picks. Australian wicket-keeper Josh Inglis as well as Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis both remained unsold in the set. While the last keeper-batsman Phil Salt was not available for the auction.
