India Under-19 World Cup winning members have been rewarded with berths in their respective Ranji Trophy teams for the upcoming selection.
India continued their domination of the ICC Under-19 World Cup as they won the title for the fifth time. In the final against England, India put up a magnificent performance thanks to Raj Bawa’s all-round show of 5/31 and a knock of 35. Nishant Sindhu also hit a fifty along with Harnoor Singh as India won by four wickets to create history. India Under-19 World Cup skipper Yash Dhull joined Mohammad Kaif, Virat Kohli, Unmukt Chand, and Prithvi Shaw to win ICC Under-19 World Cup title.
Yash Dhull, on the other hand, had entered a prestigious list of captains. His ton against Australia made him the third skipper after Virat Kohli and Unmkut Chand to achieve the feat. Now, most members of the ICC Under-19 World Cup are now getting their just rewards.
During the second ODI against West Indies in Ahmedabad, the ICC Under-19 World Cup-winning squad were felicitated by the BCCI. After the felicitation, the BCCI has announced that Yash Dhull will be included in the Delhi Ranji Trophy team. Harnoor Singh Pannu and Raj Bawa have been included in the Chandigarh Ranji team.

Speaking about Dhull’s selection in the Ranji team, a selector told PTI, “His confidence is high. Even though he hasn’t played a lot of red-ball matches, we want him to get a taste of first-class cricket,” the selector said. Dhull could not play any white-ball cricket in the last couple of months due to his commitments with the Indian Under-19 side.
There have already been some surprises in the Ranji Trophy team selection. Ajinkya Rahane has not been appointed Mumbai captain and he will play under Prithvi Shaw. Wriddhiman Saha was not picked in the Bengal team and it is an indication that his career might be over. But, there has been a massive surprise over the non-selection of Ishant Sharma in the Delhi Ranji team.
Ishant has fallen down the pecking order after the arrival of Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur. The veteran, who has played 105 Tests, might not be picked for the two-Test series against Sri Lanka. This is also an indication that the selectors are looking at life beyond Ishant. The two-Test series against Sri Lanka will begin from March 4.
