In a display of exceptional ball striking, Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh smashed an impressive 36 runs in a single over, relying only on five sixes during the third T20I clash against Afghanistan in Bengaluru. As the final over of the Indian innings unfolded, Rohit demonstrated his batting prowess by striking a four on the first ball and a six on the second ball against Karim Janat, the latter being declared a no-ball. The subsequent delivery, a free-hit, resulted in yet another six.

Managing only a single on the third legitimate ball, Rohit handed the remaining three deliveries to Rinku Singh. The left-hander seized the opportunity, smashing three consecutive sixes to propel the score to 212. This notable achievement marked the third instance in T20I history, joining the ranks of Yuvraj Singh and Kieron Pollard, where 36 runs were amassed in a single over, establishing a groundbreaking T20I record.

In the ensuing match, India secured a dramatic victory against Afghanistan in a second Super Over, completing a clean sweep of the Twenty20 series. Rohit Sharma’s record-setting century propelled India to a total of 212-4 in Bengaluru, overcoming a shaky start at 22-4. Afghanistan, fueled by Gulbadin Naib’s unbeaten 55 off 23 balls, matched India’s score, forcing the match into a tie. The subsequent Super Over also concluded evenly, reminiscent of the 2019 50-over World Cup final. However, India emerged triumphant in the second Super Over, with Rohit leading the charge with the bat and spinner Ravi Bishnoi claiming two crucial wickets.

Rohit’s unbeaten 121 off 69 balls, featuring 11 fours and eight sixes, showcased his exceptional form, establishing him as the first batsman to achieve five T20 international centuries. His dynamic partnership of 190 runs with Rinku Singh, who contributed a brisk 69 not out off 39 balls, proved pivotal. Despite early setbacks, Afghanistan’s openers, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, displayed resilience, accumulating 93 runs in the initial 11 overs. However, the strategic brilliance of Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav disrupted their partnership, setting the stage for a thrilling climax in Bengaluru.
