India captain Yash Dhull (110) and his deputy Shaik Rasheed (94) played brilliant individual knocks to rescue the side to 290/5 in the second semi-final of the U-19 World Cup against Australia at the Coolidge Cricket Ground on Wednesday. Opting to bat, India lost their openers Angkrish Raghuvanshi (6) and Harnoor Singh (16), inside the 13th over as the team was left reeling at 37/2. However, from there on, Dhull and Rasheed turned the tables on Australia and rescued the Indian ship to 241/3, forging a 204-run stand.

Yash Dhull and Shaik Rasheed show resilience

Dhull and Rasheed complimented each other throughout the course of play to pile misery on the Australian bowlers as they toiled hard for a breakthrough. The India captain scored at one run a ball with 10 boundaries and one hit over the fence to his name. It was also a mark of class from the youngster as he recently recovered from Covid-19 to put on a show for his nation and lead by example.

Rasheed, also, looked unperturbed by the early blows as he watched the ball carefully and played a cautious knock of 108 balls which was laced with eight boundaries and one four.

However, following their dismissals, Rajvardhan Hangargekar (13) failed to do much with his bat but Nishant Sindhu (12 not out) and wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Bana (20 not out) contributed with their cameos.

Bana looked in control of the proceedings from the word go as she smashed 20 off four deliveries which consisted two boundaries and as many sixes.

Lacklustre bowling effort from Australia

The Australian boys, meanwhile, did not deliver the best of their bowling performance. Captain Cooper Connolly used six bowlers in the innings with medium-pacer Jack Nisbet and spinner William Salzmann picking up a two-wicket haul each.

Medium-pacer Tom Whitney remained expensive in his spell of nine overs as he leaked 74 runs at an economy rate of 8.20.

The winners of the contest will take on England in the final at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua on Saturday.
