Yash Dhull has elevated himself as the new star in world cricket after his magnificent century in the ICC Under-19 World Cup semifinal against Australia. Dhull shared a partnership of 204 with Shaik Rasheed who hit 94. His 110 helped India reach a massive score and Australia were unable to chase it down. India won the match by 96 runs, with Yash Dhull named Man of the Match. During the course of his century, Yash Dhull matched Virat Kohli and Unmukt Chand for this particular feat.

Yash Dhull became the third Indian skipper after Virat Kohli and Unmkut Chand to hit a century in the ICC Under-19 World Cup tournament. While Kohli hit a century against the West Indies in Kuala Lumpur in the 2008 edition, Unmukt Chand hit a ton against Australia. That century in the final of the 2012 Under-19 World Cup in Townsville helped India win the title. Thanks to Yash Dhull’s century, India have made it to the final of the ICC Under-19 World Cup for the fourth consecutive time.

Yash Dhull’s score was the second-highest by an Indian skipper in the ICC Under-19 World Cup. His 110 is only behind Unmukt Chand’s 111. Kohli scored an exact 100 off 74 balls against the Windies.

Dhull had missed the initial stages of the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2022 after testing positive for the coronavirus. But, Dhull bounced back in style and ensured India has not lost a single match in the tournament so far. In the post-match presentation, Dhull gave a glimpse of how mentally mature he is.

“It’s a proud moment. The idea was to bat steadily, not to try too many shots, and to bat past the 40th over. Myself and Rasheed bat well together, we combine well and it showed,” Yash Dhull said. The India Under-19 skipper has also been included in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. After his semifinal exploits, he is sure to fetch some big bucks from a franchise. If Yash Dhull can eliminate India’s woes in the ICC Finals events in the last couple of years, his rise to superstardom will be guaranteed.
