Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland has quickly got off the stride and proved himself a handful for the Black and Yellows. The Norwegian has scored 80 goals in 79 competitive appearances in Bundesliga and looks hungry for more. But even though his ability to score consistently has made him a star figure at an early age, his matured mindset is making all the difference. Haaland dreams of nothing more than an injury-free career. He, in fact, wants to play freely throughout his career rather than being sidelined due to injuries.

“The worst thing is not being able to play,” the 21-year-old told Norway’s Viaplay Fotball.

“My biggest wish for the rest of my career is not to be injured. That’s the most important thing. That being said, [injuries] only make me more hungry for success,” he added.

Haaland became the fastest player to reach 50 goals in his Bundesliga history. He has already smashed 16 goals in 14 appearances in the ongoing season which makes him one of the contenders for the golden boot. It also gives him the best minutes-per-goal ratio in the division (72) despite missing out on six fixtures from the 20 Bundesliga games due to injury.

He was, however, subbed off in the second-half due to a muscular issue after helping BVB secure a win against top rivals Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga. The youngster is expected to make a comeback against Bayer Leverkusen on Bundesliga Matchday 21 on February 6.

“I’m training well, and will be back soon,” Haaland confirmed.

The 21-year-old was recently named in the FIFA FifPro World XI 2021 alongside the Best men’s player of the year Robert Lewandowski from Bundesliga. He has, incidentally, netted 56 goals and 17 assists in 57 Bundesliga appearances, having moved to the Signal Iduna Park from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020.
His contract with the German football giants will expire on June 30, 2024.

Bayern Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller has spoken highly of Haaland and believes that he is one of the three world-class strikers that Bundesliga gave got along side Lewandowski and Patrik Schick.

“There aren’t three centre-forwards of that calibre in England, Spain or Italy, are there?” he said. “They’re all here.”
