Lately, the rumour mill has been busy linking prolific striker Robert Lewandowski with Barcelona. The alleged rumour gathered pace in recent days, with some reports claiming that he has indeed agreed on a deal to switch to the Spanish Giants. The latest development led to Bayern Munich chief executive Oliver Kahn labeling those claims as ‘nonsense’. The legendary former goalkeeper also assured that the Polish centre-forward will stay with the German champions for atleast one more season. With Lewandowski’s contract set to expire next year, it is understandable that the 33-year-old is linked with other clubs.

Normally when a player has a year left in his contract, the parent club tries its best to extend his stay with the club. If not they will try to sell him that summer rather than risk losing him for nothing when his contract expires the following summer. Keeping this in mind, and considering the player Lewandowski is, it is not surprising to see other clubs showing interest in him. However, the rumours have started growing at such a pace that Bayern felt it was necessary for them to respond.

We’re not crazy: Oliver Kahn on Robert Lewandowski rumours

Speaking about it, Kahn did not mince his words while rubbishing the allegations. He further asserted that there have been no discussions with Lewandowski about a transfer as he continues to be a vital part of the German giants.

“Apparently there is a competition out there: who will tell the biggest nonsense story about Robert Lewandowski. We’re not crazy and we are not discussing the transfer of a player who scores between 30 and 40 goals for us every season,” he told Amazon Prime Video.

“We definitely have him with us for another season. Robert knows what he gets out of Bayern. We know what we have in him. From then on, we’ll wait and see. Bayern have a contract with Robert that runs for another season. We said we would start talks, and we started that a long time ago. And if there is something to announce, we will do so.”

Ever since moving to Bayern Munich in 2014 from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, Robert Lewandowski has established himself as one of the best strikers in world football. The Polish forward has been consistently delivering the goods for the German giants and has been a reliable source of goals for them. He has scored an astonishing 341 goals in just 370 games for the Germans.

Despite playing in his 30s, Lewandowski still continues to be at the top of his game, scoring vital goals season after season. The goal machine has found the back of the net 47 times in 41 games for Bayern in all competitions this campaign.
