Although Muller couldn’t get on the score-sheet, he provided the assist for Lewandowski to slot in between the legs of Dortmund keeper Marwin Hitz in the 34th minute. It was the 32-year-old forward’s 17th assist in the German top-flight this season. He comfortably sits at the summit of the top assist makers list, while his closest challenger, Christopher Nkunku of RB Leipzig has 13 assists to his name.

Muller has now surpassed David Alaba, who left Bayern to join Real Madrid last summer, as the player with the most number of league titles. Lewandowski and Manuel Neuer have now won their 10th championship as well, sending them into a tie with Alaba for second place behind Müller. Kingsley Coman and Joshua Kimmich have now won their 7th championship as well. These are just remarkable numbers.

The German footballer once again had a very impressive season, scoring 11 goals and registering 21 assists in 40 appearances for Bayern across all competitions. Over the last couple of years, from a fox in the box, he has turned into a quality assist maker.

During the initial years of his professional career. He was more of a goal poacher in the penalty box, who had the knack of getting into the right position at the right time. 2015-16 was his best goal-scoring season when he netted 20 times in 31 Bundesliga appearances.

But from the next season onwards, Muller’s number of assists have been more than his goals. He is now deployed behind the striker and is given a free-role to roam around with freedom. Although the German is a little short of creativity, his efficiency and effectiveness are second to none.

Despite being just 32, he has already cemented his place a Bayern Munich greats. With atelas 3 to 5 years of football left in him he is sure to achieve greater heights in the future.
