Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have followed the new initiative taken by the footballing fraternity to allow their fans to design their new home kit. The club was founded by eighteen football players from Dortmund in 1909 and since then have maintained a rich cultural heritage. Die Borussen have also accumulated around 145,000 members over the years, making the club the second largest sports club by membership in Germany. The club has maintained their black and yellow home colour with different strides and patterns since inception alongside maintaining their long-time rivalry with Ruhr neighbours Schalke 04, with whom they contest the Revierderby, and Bayern Munich in Der Klassiker.

And to extend its tradition in a world which is largely dominated by social media, the club has asked its fans to come up with suggestions for its jerseys in crocheted, painted, 3D animated or with potato print. “We want to collect your suggestions: whether crocheted, painted, 3D animated or with potato print – it doesn’t matter!” The message on Dortmund’s website enthused, as the club asked supporters of the five-time Bundesliga champions to get their thinking caps on and bring their designer skills to the fore.

“In 112 years of our club’s history, we have already seen countless jerseys: From real classics to plain, gaudy, modern or wild jerseys to – yes, you have to admit that – some fashion escapades and total mistakes,” the good folk at BVB added, while showcasing a classic collection of shirts that spanned the good, the bad and the rest.

Furthermore, the official bundesliga website said that, entrants have been asked to complete their designs using a downloadable template while budding designers can then get busy sketching on their computers or drawing by hand.
Once complete, all entries must be submitted online while there are no restrictions on the amount of entries an individual can make. To add to the fun, those taking part are encouraged to upload a video telling the story behind their designs!

The specially selected jury will then pick out nine designs, with fans able to vote for their favourite shirt from 18 February 2022. The winner will get to accompany Dortmund to a European game in the 2023/24 campaign with travel, an overnight stay and stadium access all included.

Added to that, the victorious designer gets ten VIP tickets to the first Bundesliga home match in which their shirt will be worn by the team.
