The sport of badminton always has interesting off-the-court stories which has raised an eyebrow among the netizens. Most of these cases are off-the-court love stories which have remained a centre of discussion amongst the netizens. People have often talked about the relationship between Chen Long and Wang Shixian or that of Viktor Axelsen. Likewise, one more couple who has always been the topic of discussion is Lin Dan and his wife Xie Xingfang. They truly are the powerhouse couple in China and one of the most popular badminton players in the circuits during their playing days. Their combined achievements make them a true power couple. Amongst them, they have 2 Olympic golds, 1 Olympics silver and 10 World Championships titles.
Lin has become a poster boy in the Chinese badminton circuit. He is a two-time Olympic champion, a five-time World champion, as well as a six-time All-England champion. He is touted as the “greatest badminton” player of all time from China. By the age of 28, Lin had completed the “Super Grand Slam” which is considered to be one of the rarest feats in badminton. It comprises nine major titles from the badminton world: Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, Thomas Cup, Sudirman Cup, Super Series Masters Finals, All England Open, Asian Games, and Asian Championships, becoming the first and only player to achieve this feat. He also became the first men’s singles player to retain the Olympic gold medal by winning in 2008 and successfully defending his title in 2012 against his arch-rival Lee Chong Wei.
Such a prodigal badminton player has been blessed with a talented badminton partner. Xie herself was a world no. 1 in the women’s singles category. Her first big title was in girls’ doubles at the World Junior Championships. She has also won a bronze medal at the World Junior Championships in mixed doubles. However, once she entered the national team, she switched to singles. But, her “break-out” year was 2004 when she won several top-tier titles. Xie and her senior compatriot and rival Zhang Ning were the most dominant international women’s singles players of the middle and late parts of the decade. Due to her height and slender figure, she is regarded to have elegant movement which made her a formidable opponent. Xie was also a member of China’s world champion Uber Cup teams of 2004, 2006, and 2008.

Lin Dan and Xie Xingfang have one child to date. The child’s name is Xiao Yu, which literally translates to ‘little feather’. Xiao was born in November 2016.
Xie Xingfang is a former Chinese badminton player from Guangzhou. She was the women’s singles World No. 1 at one point and the reigning champion on two occasions. Xie also won the world title in 2005 when Lin finished second to Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat. She was a member of China’s world champion Uber Cup teams of 2004, 2006, and 2008. Her last appearance as a player in a major badminton competition came at the National Games of China in October 2009. Xie was connected to Lin Dan for most of her badminton career. Both of them dated for 7 years before tying the knot in 2010.
